Joshua Vomberg, web designer, Cape Town
About

I'm Joshua, 19, and I build websites for small businesses in Cape Town.

I didn't start as a designer. At the end of last year I was building a system to find businesses that needed a website — and I kept finding them. Cafés taking orders on WhatsApp, salons booking through Instagram DMs, guesthouses paying commission to booking sites. So at the start of this year I started building the sites myself.

Around the same time I saw where AI was going, and I made a decision: rather than pretend it wasn't happening, I'd get good at it. I did the research, took a Claude course, and went all in. Thirty-five sites later, this is how I work.

I'm open about using AI.

Claude Code helps me build, and that's not a secret — it's the reason I can hand-code a site in days instead of weeks, and charge a fraction of what an agency would. My strength is knowing how to work alongside it efficiently: what to ask, what to check, what to throw out. The taste, the decisions and the responsibility are mine.

What I build.

Simple, fast websites for small businesses — sites that take orders, bookings and payments, hand-coded in plain HTML with no WordPress and nothing to break. Every site comes with an editor, so you change your own words and photos from your phone. Live within seven days from the day I have your content.

What I don't build.

Custom web apps, or anything that needs a team behind it. Complex sites are fine — multi-page, shops, bookings, memberships — it's the custom-software builds I pass on, and I'll tell you on the first call if yours is one.

Who it's for.

Cafés, bakeries, salons, barbers, florists, guesthouses, trades — any owner-run business that needs to be found and take a booking or an order online without WordPress plugins to pay for and patch.

I'm still early. I'd rather tell you that than dress it up. What I can promise is that I'll answer your messages myself, build exactly what we agreed, and hand you a site you own.
